Emboldened by the success of my debut comedy gig in April 2023, my comedy co-writer, Orla Doherty and I got in touch with Lynne Parker, founder of Funny Women, the leading UK comedy community. We wondered if there were any upcoming Funny Women gigs in Dublin and we got more than we bargained for. Lynne was on the lookout for new producers for Funny Women in Ireland. Orla and I hesitated for roughly half a second before we put our hands up to volunteer.
Orla and I, as ChatterBoxx, produced, MD’d and performed in the sold-out all-female standup comedy show in the iconic main room in Whelans, Wexford St. in Dublin. Our acts on the night were Emily Ashmore, Jess Collins, Leigh Douglas, Kate Feeney, Claire Roche and headliner Louise O’Toole. But of course, Orla and I got carried away and added in a few cheeky bonus bits. Author, broadcaster, and all-round legend, Barbara Scully read a few excerpts from her book Wise Up and we laughed ‘til we cried. The Fabulous Pharmacist, Laura Dowling, dressed as Wonder Woman no less and she hilariously brought us up to speed with the goings on in the world of pharmacy. To wrap up the night, Kirana Diamantino performed a phenomenal musical tribute to Tina Turner.
