I am very grateful for my invitation to the launch party for the 2025 Funny Women Awards, sponsored by Funny Parts (BBC Studios’ digital comedy channel), at The Comedy Store in London this week.

The annual awards are an incredible platform for new talent from women and female-identifying comedy performers and creators. The list of past winners and finalists is jaw-dropping – Katherine Ryan, Roisin Conaty, Bridget Christie, Sarah Millican, Diane Morgan, Sara Pascoe, Sindhu Vee, Rosie Jones and Sarah Keyworth. I could go on and on. Check out the Hall of Fame for the complete list.

We have yet to have a stand-up comedy winner for Ireland. Sharon Mannion and Aine Gallagher were runners-up in the past. Justine Stafford, Catherine Bohart, Sinead Culbert, Ashlee Bentley and Ally Ryan progressed toward the finals too.

There are several categories this year. The Stage Award for the best new comedy act encompasses standup, impressionists, sketch groups, so there is plenty of scope.

Enter your script into The Comedy Writing Award. If writing is your thing, there’s no better place to showcase your comedy writing skills.

The Content Creator Award recognises comedy output across social media. The public votes for this award. Serena Terry (@mammybanter) was the most recent winner.

The Comedy Shorts Award will appeal to filmmakers who create short, funny films.

The Industry Award recognises the contribution of the unsung female trailblazers in the comedy industry.
